Gunmen Abduct Travellers in Ekiti, Demand ₦30m Ransom Per Victim
Travellers in Ekiti fall victim to a shocking abduction as gunmen demand a ₦30 million ransom per person. Authorities launch investigations to rescue the victims.
A tragic event unfolded in Emure-Ile, within the Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, when gunmen ambushed and abducted several travelers on their way back from Onitsha, Anambra State to Ado-Ekiti. The attack took place on Sunday night, leaving the community in a state of shock.
Sources from the Ado-Ekiti Motor Terminal branch of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) reported that Mr. Sunday Emmanuel, a bus driver, was one of those abducted.
The attackers allegedly reached out to the driver’s family, demanding a huge ransom of ₦30 million for each passenger.
In a heartrending turn of events, the attackers left behind children who were passengers on the bus.
Their cries caught the attention of passersby early Monday morning, prompting a report to be filed at the nearest police station.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the kidnapping, with efforts in progress to ensure the victims’ safe release.
He recounted that they drove the bus into the woods and forced people inside.
They contacted the driver’s family, and I begged to speak with him. After our conversation, they demanded a ransom of N30 million. They mentioned they would call back but haven’t done so yet.
“They left some children on the bus, and it appears that individuals heading to the farm noticed them and informed the police in Emure-Owo. The driver’s union in Ado-Ekiti is currently meeting to discuss ways of contacting the kidnappers,” he stated.
He mentioned that two of the kidnapped victims managed to escape as they were being led into the bush.
Attempts to obtain a comment from the Ekiti police command were unsuccessful, as calls made to the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu’s phone went unanswered.
