The Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District, Isa Bawa and his son were kidnapped by gunmen in a troubling assault on the Sokoto to Sabon Birni road within Sokoto State.

Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for Sokoto Police Command has confirmed that an abduction occurred and stated that the authorities are currently investigating the matter.

Additional information was given by Isa Gobir, the eldest son of the victim. He clarified that while on his way from Sokoto to Sabon Birni Local Government Area, the district head had been ambushed at Kwanar Maharba.

Gobir reported that as soon as the emir’s vehicle was spotted, the attackers opened fire leading to punctured tires.

Consequently, Bawa’s son – who happened to be driving at the time- lost control of the car before both he and his father were taken hostage by kidnappers.

Gobir has made an urgent plea to the government to use all necessary means in securing the release of those who have been kidnapped.

The occurrence in Sabon Birni has caused concern among locals as it appears that five more individuals were abducted in the vicinity on the very same day.

The recent attack has sparked an increased demand for enhanced security measures countrywide, as Nigerians gear up to protest nationally in favor of better safety and protection.
