At the recently ended gubernatorial election in the state, Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle claimed that some factions in the Federal Government plotted against his re-election campaign.

Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated Matawalle of the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC), who attributed his failure to win a second term to his action against the CBN’s naira redesign strategy.

According to Obasanjonews24, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State had taken the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over the shortage of cash caused by the CBN’s cashless policy.

In an interview with DW Hausa on Thursday, the governor said that conspiracies to penalise him, Ganduje, and El-Rufai for their views on the currency policy existed before the general elections.

What’s being claimed is that we sued over the redesign of the naira notes, he remarked. I, Ganduje, and El-Rufai would receive the appropriate punishment, they claimed.

Obasanjonews24 recounts that although Nasir Gawuna, a candidate for Ganduje, lost to Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Uba Sani, a candidate for the ruling party and El-Chosen Rufai’s candidate, narrowly avoided loss.

In the interview, Matawalle also claimed that military officers had flocked to every voting location with the intention of intimidating voters.

“They brought about 300 trucks carrying military into Zamfara three days before the governor’s election.”

“There are so many soldiers here! It would be great if they could send them to us to combat insecurity. He said, “But they only sent them during elections.”
