Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State, is in the lead in the preliminary results of the state’s governorship election on Saturday because he has so far won eight of the 10 local government areas recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The governor, who is running for reelection on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd), the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who had previously held the position of Chief of the Air Staff and had so far won two local government areas (LGAs).
The former Air Force head grabbed Gamawa and Giade, the local government closest to his home, while Mohammed led in Kirfi, Jamaare, Bogoro, Warji, Itas/Gadau, Dambam, Shira, and Zaki LGAs.
