Guber election: PDP explains why Uzodimma can’t win in Imo in a fair election

In a free, fair, transparent, and credible election for governor of Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed on Tuesday that Sen. Hope Uzodimma, the incumbent governor of the state of Imo, could not win a single polling place.

The governor and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), have been rejected by the people, according to the PDP, and he has no chance of winning the November 11, 2023 election for governor of Imo State against the PDP candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

In an interview with newsmen in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, claimed that Uzodimma had never won an election in Imo State and had never had the support of the populace.

“The APC is aware that it lacks the public’s support. In any area of Imo State, Governor Uzodimma has no discernible organic support network. Due to his lack of ties to the people, even in his native Orlu zone, he has never won an election in the State.

“The signs are there, and the election on November 11, 2023, won’t be any different. In a free, fair, and transparent election, Governor Uzodimma would not prevail in any Polling Unit because Senator Anyanwu has been recognised by the people of Imo as a credible, truthful, humanitarian, and approachable leader.

“Because it has realised that it cannot prevail in a peaceful, free, and fair contest, the APC has turned to violence and intimidation of innocent citizens, property destruction, and other creative means to thwart opposition parties in the electoral process and to undermine democratic institutions.

But I can guarantee you that the Imo State populace is stronger than the APC and that they are determined to oppose it, especially during the upcoming election, Ologunagba said.

The PDP advised Governor Uzodimma and the APC to abandon the idea of rigging the governorship election on November 11, 2023 because the people will never allow their mandate, “which they have decided to give to Senator Anyanwu, to be stolen by anybody,” to be taken away. The PDP noted that Senator Anyanwu enjoys the highest level of support throughout Imo State.

To ensure a fair, impartial, and credible governorship election in Imo State, Ologunagba repeated the PDP’s call for Prof. Sylvia Agu’s immediate resignation as the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).

The party issued a warning that Agu’s decision to remain as Imo REC in the face of protests from Imo State residents, political parties, and civil society organisations is a recipe for disaster.
