Following Southampton’s 2-0 loss against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup at St. Mary’s, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola claimed that Southampton were the superior team.
On Wednesday night, the Saints eliminated the Premier League champions thanks to goals from Sekou Mara and Moussa Djenepo.
In contrast to his usual starting lineup, Guardiola brought on Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland early in the second half.
Even though all the big stars were there, City was shocked to lose to the worst team in the league.
“The more superior team won.” In the beginning, we didn’t play well at all.
Guardiola said on 5 Live: “There are many games you can start poorly and overcome, and we didn’t do it.”
“Tonight was a difficult night, but the opponent was better, so we must applaud them,” he continued. “You have to deserve to win games, and tonight we didn’t.”
Guardiola must now get his team ready for the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford on Saturday.
