Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi’s Orchard Farm, the Emir of Yauri, was slain by a hippopotamus.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the animal may have attacked in self-defense because it believed the deceased was going to hurt its young.

The animal attacked the 60-year-old victim on Sunday when he was fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village in the state’s Yauri Local Government.

Following a funeral prayer, Maigadi was buried in Yauri in accordance with Islamic customs, according to Local Government Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu.

Additionally, Governor Nasir Idris expressed his sympathies to the Yauri Emirate and the deceased’s family in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris.

Idris encouraged the emirate and the departed family members to have faith and obediently accept God’s will.

The governor beseeched Allah to pardon the deceased’s transgressions and bestow upon him Jannatul Firdaus.
