Group wants Akpabio to leave Udom alone and concentrate on good governance
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been urged by the Niger-Delta Youth Alliance for Good Governance, Akwa Ibom State chapter, to find ways to bring the benefits of democracy to his people rather than wasting time criticizing Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the outgoing governor of Akwa Ibom State.
The group noted that the comments made by Akpabio at his Abuja home when Governor Umo Eno and his entourage visited him and those made during a Thanksgiving Service/reception held by Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt, Rivers State were uncalled for and derogatory in a statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Iniobong Ekpenyong, and the Secretary, Silas Etuk, and made available to journalists in Uyo on Tuesday.
In order to bring federal presence to the state, Akpabio should work with the current governor of Akwa Ibom, who is willing, the report added, noting that his election as the senate president was the result of his diligence and track record of performance as the PDP governor of Akwa Ibom.
The Niger Delta Youth Alliance for Good Governance, according to the organization, “frowns at some remarks made by Senator Akpabio regarding the immediately past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, CON, particularly those made at his residence in Abuja when Governor Umo Eno and his entourage visited him and those issued during a Thanksgiving Service/reception held by Mr. Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“We wish to ask the honorable Senator Godswill Akpabio to live up to the expectations of the Akwa Ibom people by communicating with the Governor of the Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, who has expressed interest in working with the Federal Government for the development of the State. Instead of being preoccupied, Akpabio need to make such an attempt.
While applauding governor Eno for supporting the senate president’s efforts to advance Akwa Ibom State regardless of political party affiliations, the group cautioned Akpabio not to take the opportunity to disparage the former governor and sow discord between him (Umo Eno) and his predecessor.
The group noted that no governor in Nigeria could have respected and protected Senator Akpabio in the manner in which Governor Emmanuel did when he was in office, recalling how Emmanuel prevented the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) from looking into Akpabio’s alleged 108 billion Naira fraud.
