Expressing deep concern over the escalating rate of kidnappings in the nation, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has urgently called upon President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the augmentation of the Police Force and other security agencies.

In light of the recent release of 137 students from Kuriga Government Secondary School in Kaduna State, the group has underscored the inherent dangers associated with the delay in recruiting and training additional policemen and security personnel.

MMWG has emphasized that the current number of security personnel is woefully inadequate when compared to the vast population of the country, thereby necessitating immediate action to curb this menacing trend.

In a joint statement signed by its national coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, and the national secretary, Nasir Balogun, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has attributed the nation’s security challenges to improper postings of security personnel.

MMWG has expressed concern that the deployment of security forces to political office-holders has resulted in the neglect of areas with pressing security concerns, thereby exacerbating the prevailing situation.

The group has stressed that maintaining such misguided postings in the face of the resurging wave of kidnappings in Nigeria is untenable and will inevitably lead to adverse consequences.

MMWG has advocated for the immediate reassignment of police and National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel to all schools across the country, irrespective of whether they operate boarding facilities or not.

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has extended commendation to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his exemplary leadership, which played a pivotal role in the successful rescue operation that led to the release of 137 out of the 287 kidnapped students.

MMWG has lauded Governor Sani’s exceptional leadership qualities, which facilitated the collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the state government, ultimately resulting in the safe return of a significant number of abducted students.

The group recognizes the importance of strong leadership in addressing the security challenges faced by the nation and acknowledges Governor Sani’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerian citizens.
