Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the country director of the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), has urged Nigerians to work with law enforcement to reduce the number of killings in some areas of the nation.
He pointed out that a state of chaos is incompatible with genuine growth.
The number of murders and property crimes in the nation is disturbing, he said, and serious thought must be given to the future.
Speaking on Tuesday at a one-day dialogue for “strengthening synergy between religious leaders and security operatives in Kaduna State”, organised by Kukah Centre in partnership with Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, he said the program’s goal is to bring stakeholders together to discuss issues affecting the security situation with a view to ensuring the restoration of peace in the State.
He stated, “Innocent people have been killed and property destroyed, and we felt the need to engage religious leaders and security agencies towards finding a workable way to restore peace for even development to take place in the State.”
In order to restore peace, he said that all parties involved should take concrete action to improve their mutual understanding.
Suleiman Shuaibu, the State’s attorney general and commissioner of justice, claimed the governor was making genuine efforts to ensure the presence and maintenance of peace.
In order to ensure peaceful cohabitation, he gave the organisers the assurance that the State government’s doors were open to conversation.
In order to maintain peace in Kaduna State and the rest of the nation, the Kukah Centre would continue to work with stakeholders, according to the programme manager, Mr. Methodius Karfe.
