The North East Development Association, or NEDA, has called on Northeast stakeholders, particularly Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors, and lawmakers, to develop sustainable ideas for the region’s restoration.

During a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja titled “Conference on Politics and Development in the Northeast Sub-region,” NEDA Secretary General Bitako Umar made the call on behalf of the organisation.

According to Umar, NEDA convened and discussed the political developments and social and cultural activities taking place in the sub-region as a voice for advocacy.

In order to reinforce the route towards the region’s recovery from the devastations experienced due to insurgency, conflicts, and other connected criminal tendencies, the association, according to the speaker, chose to attract attention of key stakeholders on concerns on the ground.

“The Association reached the following resolution: That it is important for the sub-region’s important stakeholders to continually keep in mind that the area was a significant hub for agricultural and commercial operations.

This was before the so-called Boko-Haram group and the region’s racial conflicts emerged.

He continued, “Therefore, the need for collective and supportive collaboration in restoring the lost glory of the region, bearing in mind the fight towards the restoration of peace and security.”
