A terror investigation was started when a Ukrainian village councillor detonated hand grenades at a meeting, injuring 26, according to national police on Friday.

The event happened on Friday morning at the Keretsky village council headquarters, which is located in the hilly Zakarpattia area of western Ukraine.

During a contentious debate, a man in black was seen walking through the door of a council meeting on a police video that was uploaded to Telegram.

The meeting attendees shouted as he then took three hand grenades out of his pockets, unfastened the safety pins, and dropped them to the ground, setting off explosions.

The police statement stated that 26 individuals were injured as a result, with six of them in critical condition. It also stated that medical personnel were attempting to revive the man who had thrown the grenades.

The Ukrainian Secret Service (SBU) launched a terrorism inquiry, according to the country’s police.

It added that national police initiated an investigation into the unlawful possession of firearms.

Before setting off the grenade, the man had entered the room more nearly 1.5 hours into the debate and stood outside the door, according to a live video of the committee’s discussion that was shared on social media.

The scene changed to one of mayhem within the small space, complete with injured individuals lying on the floor as it grew dark and smokey.
