Greece pledges to assist Nigeria in its effort to combat poverty
The ambassador of Greece to Nigeria, Mr. Ioannis Plotas, has stated that his nation is ready to assist the Federal Government of Nigeria in its mission to eradicate poverty in Nigeria.
This was said by Plotas during his meeting with Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, on Thursday in Abuja.
The envoy claimed that the purpose of his visit was to improve Nigeria and Greek cooperation in order to boost the nation’s humanitarian response.
“The purpose of my trip was to look into ways we could work together even more in the area of humanitarian concerns.
“We have experience with these difficulties because we have offered a variety of services to numerous nations around the world.
Since the African continent is our top priority, Nigeria is in the domain and is our top priority.
“We acknowledge that there are individuals in need and communities in need, particularly in some areas of Nigeria.
“So our government is prepared to help financially or in kind with specific goods in order to alleviate poverty and to do whatever we can in the area of humanitarian activities.
“We are committed to achieving this aim through the Committee of the Red Cross or the Greek Red Cross Society.
Plotas stated, “We are targeting as many people as we can to lift them out of poverty.”
The representative reaffirmed the Greek government’s commitment to offering the required assistance.
The minister responded by expressing the Tinubu administration’s commitment to helping millions of Nigerians escape poverty.
The minister indicated commitment to strengthen the strong relationship already established between the two nations and make sure that Nigerians benefited from it.
She asserted that the ministry would assure a strong and long-lasting programme to combat poverty, particularly one that included a social safety net to protect Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations.
We shall look for ways to work with the international world and within ourselves to develop policies that can help these people escape poverty because a substantial portion of Nigerians live below the poverty line.
Our primary responsibility as a ministry is to manage, avoid, and alleviate humanitarian emergencies as well as to assist those who are experiencing one in getting better and being reintegrated back into society.
“Tinubu has begun the engagement, and we are determined as a government to seeing Nigerians escape poverty.(NAN)
