In Ilare-Ijesa, Osun State, a heated argument led to the tragic death of Akanbi Adedoyin. The 78-year-old man was allegedly struck on the head by his grandson and did not survive.

According to Obasanjonews.com, the conflict over who owns a piece of farmland is said to have triggered the event that occurred on Monday.

It is said by witnesses that the grandson purportedly struck his grandfather with a board, resulting in substantial head trauma.

Adedoyin’s neighbors quickly responded to his cries for assistance and brought him to a nearby government health facility where he received immediate treatment.

For safety purposes, a resident who wished to remain anonymous shared that Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa had recommended Adedoyin’s transfer due to the severity of his injuries. However, lack of funds hindered this possibility and unfortunately led to Adedoyin passing away two days later.

Oludele, a fellow resident, reported that Kusibe was swiftly apprehended by community members following the incident and turned over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. From there, he was transported to the Esa Oke Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

To prevent future incidents of violence, Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, the Owalare of Ilare, implored the police to guarantee that justice is dispensed in this matter.

Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for Osun State Police Command, confirmed the incident and revealed that their investigation established that the dispute was concerning who owned farmland.
