Adewumi Adeyemi, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, has counselled governors throughout the nation to concentrate on how to leave long-lasting legacies beyond their terms in office.
Adeyemi, a state representative for Obokun, asserted that governors should have longer-term goals.
The member argued that ensuring continuity in administration would not only improve service delivery but also promote a stable and progressive political environment nationwide.
In response to the Lagos Blue Train’s recent debut, Adeyemi made these revelations.
He asked the governors to take Lagos and Osun States as examples of where initiatives carried out by governors are being preserved by their successors in a statement made available to OBASANJO NEWS24 on Wednesday.
If a governor’s programmes are not completed or maintained by his successors, he said, it will be a waste of resources.
Regardless of the political party in power, he claimed that projects carried out by prior governors in Osun improved the lives of our population.
“Our vision should extend beyond four years,” Adeyemi remarked. The importance of continuity in governance initiatives must be prioritised by Nigerian leaders.
The Lagos Blue Train project, started by the previous governor of Lagos State Babatunde Fashola, has been rigorously pursued by succeeding administrations and is a classic example of the advantages of long-term dedication to a common objective.
“Another example is the road channelization projects in Osun State, which were started during the administrations of previous governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Rauf Aregbesola, Gboyega Oyetola, and the current governor, Ademola Adeleke.
“Continuity in governance will encourage a more stable and progressive political environment in addition to greater service delivery. Over time, these initiatives have steadily advanced and improved, with each government building on the groundwork set by the one before it.
“This demonstrates unequivocally that political barriers are irrelevant to progress. The people gain the most when our leaders give continuity top priority. Regardless of the party in power, these infrastructural projects in Osun State have constantly enhanced the lives of our inhabitants.
