At least 3,234 employees who were hired by the administration of former Governor Umar Ganduje have been let go by the Kano State government led by Governor Abba Yusuf.
However, 9,332 employees who were employed at the end of the previous government were spared.
This was revealed on Friday by State Government Secretary Abdullahi Bichi, who was educating reporters on the findings of the 22-member committee the government had formed to investigate the procedures used in hiring the individuals.
According to Bichi, the dismissed employees were not qualified to work in the civil service because, among other reasons, some of them were underage, others were still enrolled in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and some had fake certifications.
He claimed that since the 9,332 other employees’ pay will be paid back soon, the administration has approved of their employment.

After taking power, the new administration stopped paying the more than 10,000 employees that Ganduje’s administration had hired, and they established a commission to confirm the employment procedure.
Because of his compassion and concern for others, the Governor has accepted the following based on the Technical Committee’s observations and recommendations: reinstatement of 9,332 employees in total that the committee determined to be eligible. For best use, eligible personnel should be posted or deployed appropriately to the appropriate MDAs.
Following receipt of the Verification Committee Report, the following key findings and recommendations were acknowledged and approved by the government: the bulk of employments were not included in the 2023 approved budget.
