Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has dismissed Adamu Aliyu, the commissioner for lands, for making threats against members of the gubernatorial tribunal.

The commissioner threatened to force the state’s judges to choose between money or their lives on Friday while speaking to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Hausa over allegations that the justices had been bought off.

We want to tell any judge who accepts bribes and renders unjust decisions that he has to decide between the bribe and his life.

“You’ve seen the banditry and conflict in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Katsina; I swear, everyone’s gonna die over this governorship seat.” More people will die in the conflict that starts in Kano than in the other states and Borno combined.

Additionally, due to a statement Yusuf Imam made criticising Vice President Kashim Shettima, the governor terminated his job as Special Advisor on Youths.

In response, the State Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, said governor Yusuf holds the judges in great regard and would not tolerate any disrespect for them while speaking to reporters at the government building on Friday.

Dantiye said: “For these reasons, the Governor of Kano State has relieved the Special Adviser on Youth and Sport, Yusuf Imam, and the Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Adamu A. Kibiya, of their appointment with immediate effect.” He described the remarks as unguarded remarks.

The comment has caused significant worries to surface throughout the state’s political spectrum regarding the impartiality and security of the judges presiding over the election dispute.
