Governor Makinde Approves Permanent Status for LG Ad-Hoc Workers

Governor Makinde has approved the conversion of local government ad-hoc workers to permanent staff, enhancing job security for many. Read more about this decision.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the conversion of temporary staff in the 33 local government councils in the state to permanent staff.

Makinde made the statement at the official commissioning of the newly constructed local government buildings and Human Resource Development School.

The event took place in Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday. Makinde said the decision to convert the temporary staff to permanent staff was made to address manpower shortages at the local government level.

He added that due recruitment procedures had been effectively carried out and should be completed within four weeks.

He promised that his administration would continue to seek innovative ways to support local government for the benefit of the people and would work with the people to achieve his vision for the state.

He added that the newly constructed complex would provide a conducive working environment for local government officials and increase productivity.

He insisted that the State Secretariat facility would be renovated and rehabilitated by the end of his administration in 2027.

Makinde said: “We will continue to work with local government and sell our vision at the state level to local government administrators as well. With synergy, we can achieve more.”

“The last time holiday bonuses to primary school teachers were paid was in 2017. Primary schools, child care homes and other facilities were in poor condition. But we paid primary school teachers holiday bonuses for 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

“So we had to find a way to reduce this deficit. And we are not going to play games with anyone, because they are our compatriots. We insisted that the first item should be deducted from the LG account.

“This was a unique way of ensuring that outstanding pensions and retirement benefits were paid. We have paid over 18 billion naira in pension arrears and paid over 15 billion naira in retirement benefits to pensioners.”
