The state judiciary in Zamfara State has come under fire from Governor Dauda Lawal for giving bail to a few accused bandit commanders who were apprehended with weapons and hauled before the court to face charges.

The governor asserted that influential people in Abuja, who he claimed had been in contact with the accused bandit leaders, had ordered the release of the alleged bandit leaders.

He claimed that these influential people had promised the accused that they would be released right away from custody.

He revealed this at the swearing-in ceremony for new magistrates in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, while also praising several judges for their honesty and hard work.

He added that one of the alleged bandit leaders was located and seized in Bauchi State, while the other was captured in Gusau, the state capital, and both were brought before the court.

Governor Lawal assigned the new judicial officials the responsibility of carrying out their duties in accordance with the terms of their employment, counselling them to work honourably and honestly, and defending their appointments in the interest of all law-abiding residents as a whole.

Reminding them of the state’s ongoing security issues, which include cattle rustling, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities, Governor Lawal urged them to assist in resolving the matter.

Since everyone is watching them, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Kulu Aliyu, had earlier tasked the recently sworn-in magistrates with upholding the judiciary’s reputation and image at all times.

Remember how the state’s governor, Dauda Lawal, recently bemoaned the state’s lack of security and asserted that some well-known Abuja residents were in talks with the bandits who were ravaging the area?

He insisted that these influential people reside in Abuja and, without his knowledge, are starting talks with the state’s bandits, which is leading to an increase in the state’s banditry.
