Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has officially sworn in seven members of the State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, during an inauguration ceremony held in Makurdi.

The governor emphasized the importance of the Commission in conducting free, credible, and inclusive council polls.
Each member was carefully selected based on their nonpartisan stance, exceptional qualifications, integrity, and unwavering commitment to democratic principles.
The governor highlighted the critical role of the Commission in establishing a solid foundation for democracy, as local councils and wards serve as the primary interface between the government and the people.
He urged the Commission to ensure the consolidation of democracy by conducting fair and transparent elections that accurately reflect the will and aspirations of the people of Benue.
Governor Alia assured the members of the government’s unwavering support and commitment to upholding the independence of the BSIEC, emphasizing the government’s dedication to transparent and inclusive electoral processes.
He expressed gratitude to the Commission’s members for accepting the responsibility to serve Benue and commended the House of Assembly for their thorough screening and confirmation process.
In response, the Commission’s chairman, Dr. John Chen, assured the governor that the members fully understood their duties and the desires of the people of Benue.
