Due to dereliction of duty, the government of Kano State has suspended two principals.
They include the directors of the Chinese and French bilingual colleges in Kwankwaso’s Madobi Local Government Area.
In a statement from the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, State Commissioner for Education Umar Haruna explained that the suspended principals were not at their respective schools when the team of take-up inspection paid a visit to observe the start of the 2023/2024 first term school session.
The Commissioner gave his approval for the posting of Umar Sabo as a sit-in principal at the French Bilingual College and Isyaku Umar Abdullahi as a sit-in principal at the Chinese Bilingual College Kwankwaso, according to the statement.
The statement claims that the inspection team, which was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Kubra Imam, found that students at the two colleges had not been provided dinner on Sunday night and that their breakfast for Monday had not yet been prepared.
The Commissioner ordered the two Principals to turn over control of the schools to the new sit-in Principals and report to the government while an investigation was underway. The Commissioner was appalled by what he called the two Principals’ careless attitudes.
All school officials were advised in the statement to avoid taking any action that may jeopardise the current administration’s efforts to revive the education sector.
According to the statement, the Commissioner thanked Kano Kofar Famfo, the principal of Government Girls College (WTC), and Kwankwaso, the principal of Government Girls Secondary School, for their commitment and cooperation in making all the necessary preparations for the start of the 2023–2024 academic year.
“Students are so impressed with the way they were served food,” the statement continued.
“Their turnout is very commendable, and the principals of the two Schools made good efforts to make their school environment conducive.”
