The Taraba State Government has come under fire from the Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) for what it sees as a lack of response to the ongoing Tiv-Jukun problem that has existed since April 1, 2019.

The group expressed grave worry and called for prompt government action about the ongoing unrest between the Tiv and Jukun communities in Southern Taraba during a press conference on Monday in Jalingo.

Under the leadership of its President General, James Baka, the TCSA claimed that returning internally displaced people, or IDPs, are being threatened and harassed; this has cast doubt on the durability of the peace that has been established in the impacted areas.

The group called on the federal and state governments to act quickly to stop the crisis, protect the rights of the displaced, and guarantee their protection.

The TCSA expressed concerns about the Nigerian Army’s purported bias and charged them with impeding the return of internally displaced people to their homes.

The group has listed a number of communities, including Tor Musa, Tor Lorshagher, Daa, and Ikyernum, as being under military control.

The TCSA made an appeal to the Chief of Army Staff, demanding an examination of their allegations, prompt action, and the deployment of impartial army personnel to safeguard returning internally displaced persons.

The group demanded more government support, supplies, and security for the displaced people who were returning.

The TCSA made a pleading plea to the state governor, asking him to visit the returning internally displaced people (IDPs) in Wukari, give them a feeling of community, and give them faith that the government is committed to ending the situation.
