The state of Borno’s governor, Babagana Zulum, has given soldiers injured in the ongoing conflict with rebels in the state a N10 million relief package.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Maiduguri, Maj.-Gen. Peter Malla received the package from Prof. Usman Tar, Borno Commissioner of Information and Security, and Mustapha Busuguma, Permanent Secretary Government House.

During the presentation, Tar stated that Zulum had made a promise regarding the package at the Eid-el-kabir luncheon for soldiers in Maiduguri, which had been planned by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

“We are here to carry out the promise made by His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Executive Governor of Borno State.

You might remember that the governor attended an event here on a Sallah day and made a promise to give N10 million to injured soldiers as well as expressing the commitment of the Borno State Government to the welfare of our troops.

“He sent us to come and deliver the gift this morning,” Tar remarked.

In light of the sacrifices made by the troops in preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity, he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continuing to support the federal government by providing supplies and other forms of assistance to enhance the welfare of the troops.

Maj.-Gen. Peter Malla, the GOC for 7th Division, thanked Zulum in his response for his ongoing assistance to the state’s military.

“Let me welcome you to 7 Division on behalf of Theatre Commander and also express our gratitude to His Excellency for always supporting the military,” Malla remarked.
