Gov Yusuf Reappoints Sanusi as Emir of Kano, Gives Ex-Monarchs 48 Hours to Vacate

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has been reappointed as the Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in accordance with the new laws.

The governor has given the former emirs a 48-hour deadline to vacate their palaces and transfer the properties of the Emirate Council to the Commissioner of Local Government, who also serves as the State Deputy Governor.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has officially signed the Kano Emirates Bill 2024 into law, thereby repealing the 2019 Emirate Councils Law that had previously altered the state’s rich history of over 1000 years.

With the signing of this bill, the governor has emphasized that the 2019 law is now a thing of the past.

The signing ceremony was attended by notable individuals such as the Speaker of the State Assembly, Ismaila Falgore, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam, Secretary to the State Government Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and others. This action by the State Assembly signifies the fulfillment of one of its constitutional duties in enacting this law.
