Gov Yusuf Orders Arrest of Deposed Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has issued a command for the immediate apprehension of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, on grounds of inciting unrest within the state.
This order was given just forty-eight hours subsequent to Bayero’s removal from his position by the governor.
A press release delivered early on Saturday morning by Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for the Governor, disclosed that the former emir was purportedly brought into Kano city the previous night in an effort to forcefully reclaim the palace. The statement, released at 7:00 AM in Kano, verified that the new Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, had entered the palace in the company of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other high-ranking government officials around 1:00 AM on Saturday.
“In his capacity as the Chief security officer of the state, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has instructed the Commissioner of Police to detain the deposed emir immediately for causing public unrest and attempting to disrupt the peace the state currently enjoys,” the statement from Mr. Tofa, who holds the position of Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House in Kano, stated.
The statement underscored the government’s dedication to upholding peace and order, underscoring that any actions that undermine this stability will be met with stringent measures.
