PVCs will be available for pickup at all local government area offices in the three states, according to the electoral umpire.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has authorised the restarting of the collecting of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) for a period of four weeks before to the November 11, 2023 off-cycle governorship elections in the states of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.

The electoral umpire stated that registered voters who were unable to obtain their PVCs prior to the suspension of the process on February 5, 2023, before the most recent general elections, would be able to do so within the specified time frame.

The Commission has designated weekdays (Monday through Friday) from 9.00am to 3.00pm for the collection of PVCs for a period of four weeks from September 11 to October 9, 2023, according to a statement from INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun.

“All of our Local Government area offices in the three States—eight in Bayelsa, twenty-seven in Imo, and twenty-one in Kogi—will have PVCs accessible for pickup.

The Commission has also established other designated centres with a significant amount of uncollected PVCs. The Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) in the three states will provide information on each centre.

Two RECs were also transferred to other states by the Commission. While Ayobami Salami relocates from Ekiti State to Lagos, the REC for Edo State, Obo Effanga, assumes leadership in Bayelsa for the upcoming off-cycle governorship election. Following the expiration of the final bearers of the posts, “the two States are among those without RECs,” INEC stated.

The election umpire urged political parties and candidates to behave peacefully throughout their ongoing campaigns and to refrain from saying or doing anything that would disrupt the peace.
