Peter Obi, a presidential candidate for the Labor Party, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to move swiftly and announce the results of the governorship elections in the states of Abia and Enugu.
Obi, who announced this in a statement, expressed displeasure with the holdup in the announcement of the outcome.
As you may recall, INEC postponed the collation of results in the states of Abia and Enugu on Monday because reports from the states demanded revisions.
In response, Obi noted that although he is aware that INEC is evaluating the results collation in Abia and Enugu, the continued delay calls into doubt the Commission’s intentions and the legitimacy of the election.
“If the Electoral Authorities are devoted to the integrity of the Exercise in compliance with the specified Guidelines,” as stated in the guidelines, “the Records of the Elections from Polling Units should not be difficult to compute.”
