The medical costs for Calabar gas explosion victims have been promised to be covered by Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu.

A gas explosion catastrophe involving a family of four, including Prince Effiom, his pregnant wife Joy Prince, their daughter, and their one-year-old child, happened last week in their home at No. 10 Tete Street, Calabar South.

When the tragedy occurred, residents of the Bayside neighbourhood in Calabar South assisted in transporting the victims to a local medical facility.

The governor expressed his gratitude to God that no one died and that the populace did not turn a blind eye but helped transport the victims to the hospital. He was represented by his chief of staff, Emmanuel Ironbar.

He argued that regardless of their place in society, all citizens’ lives matter.

He applauded the hospital’s administration for prioritising patient lives by starting treatment even in the absence of payment.

He expressed satisfaction that the victims were making a quick recovery.

He guaranteed that the government would be willing to pay for medical expenses as well as work with the hospital in many other ways.

“I truly want to thank God Almighty for preserving the lives of the victims. I’m pleased to see how quickly they are recuperating. However, we are pleading with you to make sure they receive sufficient treatment so they can fully recover as soon as possible.

This is what our government stands for: being aware of your neighbour and making sure we are our brother’s keeper. We can create a more developed and prosperous Cross River State by doing this.

Otu took advantage of the chance to restate that his administration is prepared to work in collaboration with pertinent healthcare providers to bring the United Nations’ Universal Health Coverage to the State.

He insisted that ensuring access to affordable healthcare for all is a crucial component of his administration’s strategy for attaining its objectives.

As a government, we have determined that a crucial element in advancing that process is accessible healthcare for all citizens. To ensure that we can attain universal health for everybody, we are working incredibly hard to make sure that we maintain proper condition in all of our primary healthcare facilities throughout the state.

The burn sufferers are responding to therapy and doing well, according to the medical director of the facility, Dr. Edet Attih, who also confirmed that they had passed the most perilous stage in burn management.
