Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has achieved yet another victory at the Supreme Court, as the petition filed against him by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Kenneth Gbagi, has been dismissed for lacking merit.
In a unanimous judgment, the apex court rejected all the grounds and allegations raised against the gubernatorial poll that took place on March 18 last year.
Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, who delivered the lead judgment, deemed the allegations against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oborevwori, as laughable, stating that there was no evidence to support them.
Furthermore, Justice Lawal dismissed the claim that the election was invalid and that the governor was not duly elected by the majority of lawful votes cast. Similarly, in another judgment, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal by the Labour Party (LP) and its governorship candidate, Ken Pela, for being frivolous and lacking merit.
Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji, who delivered the lead judgment, declared the petition worthless as the appellants failed to establish any of their allegations. Consequently, all three appeals lodged by the All Progressives Congress (APC), SDP, and LP have been thrown away for lack of merit.
