The 6,000-capacity Edo Arena is set to be named after the popular afrobeats musician Rema as announced by Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State.
On Wednesday, during the project’s groundbreaking ceremony in Benin City, the governor made this announcement.
While Rema was in Benin to perform at his homecoming concert held at Ogbe Stadium, he took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for Edo Arena alongside the governor and placed down its first block.
Governor Obaseki stated via X that he was delighted to be joined by global music icon @heisrema for the groundbreaking ceremony of Edo Arena, a venue with a capacity of 6,000. The arena will now bear the name “Rema’s Dome” and is situated at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.

When finished, the arena will be able to accommodate various types of events such as concerts, national conferences, symposiums and other sizeable gatherings- according to The Governor’s explanation.
According to him, the arena will not only bring in more tourists to the state but also provide an opportunity for them to indulge in our vibrant culture and offerings. Moreover, this paves way for employment opportunities among young people.
Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, hails from Benin City and has embraced his role as a fervent representative of Edo State. He uses his music and performances to showcase the cultural richness and historical significance of the legendary Benin kingdom.
