The sudden collapse of a significant bridge in the state’s Shendam Local Government Area has alarmed Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

In a statement released on Tuesday in Jos by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Gyang Bere, Mutfwang called the occurrence regrettable.

The bridge was crucial for connecting many local villages in terms of economic activity until it fell apart on Sunday after a lot of rain.

He predicted that some of the local villages will face short-term difficulties as a result of the bridge’s collapse, which connected them to their farmlands.

Although he was relieved that no one had been hurt, he urged the impacted communities to follow the temporary diversion routes and expressed relief that no one had been killed.

The governor reportedly expressed alarm over the bridge’s continued collapse and emphasised the urgent need for a quality reconstruction in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In order to provide value-added services for Nigerians, particularly in rural communities, he also discussed the urgent need to implement best practises in the administration of all government contracts.

He reassured the residents of Shendam that the government would work quickly to rebuild the bridge so they could conduct their daily lives and businesses.

The “government is diligently working to address this predicament,” he stated.
