Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has paid a touching tribute to the renowned highlife musician Mike Ejeagha by revealing his plans to rename a notable road in the region after him. This is intended as an honor for this legendary artist.
The newly named Mike Ejeagha Road in Abakpa Nike of Enugu East Council Area was formerly referred to as Obinagu Road.
During a recent visit to Ejeagha’s residence, Governor Mbah announced his profound admiration for the musician’s exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s cultural and musical heritage.
Mike Ejeagha, popularly referred to as the “Gwo Gwon Ngwo” crooner, is renowned for his exceptional talent of incorporating traditional Igbo proverbs and sagacity into his music. This has earned him great adoration not only in Enugu but throughout the country.
Situated at the center of Enugu, Mike Ejeagha Road endures as a significant emblem of the profound influence that Ejeagha had on the community.
The governor, Mbah, highlighted that this act is a component of his leadership’s wider plan to acknowledge and safeguard Enugu State’s valuable cultural legacy.

Visiting our living legend, Mike Ejeagha was a delightful experience. Additionally, we commissioned four newly constructed and reconstructed roads in Abakpa Nike. As an acknowledgement of his substantial contributions to Enugu State’s cultural heritage, Obinagu Road – which leads to his residence and underwent reconstruction early this year – has been renamed as Mike Ejeagha Road.
Enugu boasts a wealth of history, talent, and culture that define our identity. It is imperative to pay tribute and commemorate those who have contributed significantly. As part of our pledge to preserve the heritage left by indigenous legends, we provide full support for Mike Ejeagha’s welfare through government resources today.
We want to assure the inhabitants of Abakpa and Enugu State that this marks only the start.
Abakpa is definitely among the 141 roads and 20 rural roads for which we have recently granted construction contracts.
The dualization of Penocks Junction on the Enugu-Onitsha Road will soon begin, extending all the way to Opi-Nsukka. The awarded contract is set for immediate work commencing. Our firm dedication towards advancing transformative initiatives within Enugu State remains unwavering with other road constructions and endeavors underway aimed at enriching our citizens’ quality of life.
