Former Governor Nyesom Wike’s N195 billion Ring Road project has been placed on hold by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This choice is being made as the struggle for control of the state’s political leadership intensifies between Fubara and Wike.
The sudden cancellation of the expensive infrastructure project demonstrates the growing distance between Fubara and his predecessor.

The actions of Governor Fubara are thought to portend a potential confrontation between Wike and himself in the near future. Furbara has already made a big move by removing a few of Wike’s adherents from his ministry. The choice was made in reaction to attempts to impeach Governor Fubara by lawmakers in the state House of Assembly who support Governor Wike.
Allegations that Wike has maintained influence and control over Rivers state affairs although serving as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have added fuel to the political rivalry between Fubara and Wike.
The political wrangling and the multibillion-naira project’s postponement suggest that the two political heavyweights are about to battle, which could drastically alter the balance of power and governance in Rivers state.
