Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, to serve as the Acting First Lady following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno.
During a condolence visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, along with other dignitaries in Uyo on Friday, the governor made the announcement.
Eno announced that his daughter would assume the responsibilities of the First Lady to ensure continuity in the office and maintain progress on projects started by his late wife, especially the Golden Initiative For All.
“In order to preserve the Office of the First Lady and continue my late wife’s legacy, I introduce our daughter, Helen. She will assume responsibility for the office’s duties and collaborate closely with both the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare,” announced the governor.
He conveyed his confidence in his daughter’s capability to uphold her late mother’s values and vision, reaffirming his dedication to continuing the projects started through the First Lady’s office.
In a heartfelt tribute, the governor referred to his late wife as both his “greatest supporter and toughest critic,” reminiscing about their lifelong connection.

He stressed that his late wife’s absence is irreplaceable, and he continues to focus on preserving her legacy through the work of the First Lady’s office.
Eno reassured the people of Akwa Ibom that his late wife’s initiatives would persist, with their daughter taking charge to uphold her mother’s vision.
“I married her when I was 22 and she was 19. She was truly a gift from God, which is why I called her Oluwa-Kemi. We faced many challenges together, and losing her is an irreplaceable loss for me,” he expressed.
During the visit, Mrs. Tinubu commended the governor’s decision and expressed confidence in Obareki’s potential for success, describing it as a considerate approach to preserving the late Eno’s legacy.
Mrs. Tinubu expressed her support for the new First Lady by saying, “Your mother brought you to me with purpose, and it’s a blessing that her colleagues along with the Vice President’s wife are here to stand by you. I know you well and have faith that God will guide your path. You will achieve even greater things than your mother did, and He will bless you with good health.”
The governor humorously dismissed rumors of him taking a second wife during another visit by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
He mentioned that he isn’t thinking about remarrying anytime soon because he can’t afford another bride price.
