Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has directed the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to concentrate more on training and empowerment programmes for socioeconomic stability as the state heals from years of Boko Haram terrorism.

When Buni met Mohamedoun Mohammed, the International Committee of Red Cross’s Head of Operations, at Government House in Damaturu on Thursday, he took over.

The governor, through his Deputy Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, stated that although it is documented that victims of insurgency have gotten interventions in a number of villages throughout the state, what they really require at this time is empowerment to sustainably support their life.

He declared, “Yobe State government’s resettlement, rehabilitation, and reconstruction programmes have benefited greatly from ICRC assistance.”

He expressed his gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its tremendous efforts in meeting the state’s humanitarian needs at the height of the insurgency.

The ICRC’s Head of Operations, Mohamedoun Mohammed, stated in his remarks that the visit’s goals were to become acquainted with and evaluate the organization’s programmes in Yobe State, particularly those supporting livelihoods, as well as to interact with pertinent parties in order to safeguard and aid those impacted, particularly Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

He noted that in order to ensure the resettlement of IDPs, the ICRC has carried out numerous projects, particularly in Gaidam and Buni Yadi.

He claims that arrangements are being made to support the Unguro-kayayya community in the Gaidam local government region, which has recently been the target of Boko Haram raids.
