Idris Miliki, a well-known activist in Kogi State, has criticised Governor Yahaya Bello for neglecting to hold local government elections prior to the current Council Chairmen’s terms ending.
Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) Executive Director Miliki expressed his opinions on Thursday during a one-day post-2023 governorship election review meeting for Kogi State political parties held in Lokoja.

“It is highly condemnable that up until now, the result of the Local Government election conducted three years ago has not been published by the Kogi State Independence Electoral Commission, (KOSIEC),” the activist said, alleging that Governor Bello failed the people of Kogi State by preventing them from electing their leaders from the grassroots.
The elected Local Government Chairmen’s term ends today, December 14, 2023. They will be turning over to DLGs as they are no longer in office. We have the right, not the obligation, to choose our local government leaders.
“We are going to hold Governor Yahaya Bello accountable for depriving us of the chance to choose our local government chairmen.
Despite being an electoral beneficiary, he let me, the people of Kogi State, and all of the citizens down.
