The recently sworn-in Commissioners and Special Assistants have been cautioned by Niger State Governor, Hon. Muhammad Umar Bago, to avoid corruption, complacency, and docility.

He declared that anyone found in the web of corruption will unquestionably be shown the exit from his government.

Bago warned the political appointees not to take advantage of their position as an opportunity for self-enrichment during the swearing-in ceremony of his aides in Minna.

Let me make it very clear that complacency, docility, and, most crucially, corruption, will not be tolerated, he said.

“You cannot view the honour of your appointment as a chance for personal growth. You will undoubtedly be shown the path out if you let yourself become entangled in the complex web of corruption.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Speaker and members of the Niger State House of Assembly for the efficient screening and confirmation of the nominees that had been forwarded to them, noting that this one act had demonstrated their commitment to creating and maintaining a cordial relationship between the various branches of government in order to enshrine good governance in the State.

“I need to reiterate that your appointments are strictly based on merits, competence, and a proven record of hard work and integrity,” the governor told the appointees.

I thus anticipate you using these qualities of quality and dedication to this new task.

The governor continued by saying that his government would be receptive to suggestions for improvement and constructive criticism from all participants in the political process.

In his welcome speech earlier, the Secretary to the Niger State Government, SSG Alh. Abubakar Usman, said that the nomination, confirmation, and administration of the oaths of office and loyalty had been rigorous processes.

He continued by promising that every political appointee will be devoted, trustworthy, and faithful in the performance of their duties.
