Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, has asked the state’s Urban Development Board to look into complaints of people living in the state capital Makurdi encroaching on public lands.

Tersoo Kula, the governor’s chief press secretary, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Makurdi.

In order to examine continuing work on erosion control and other maintenance work in its office premises, Governor Alia visited Benue Links, the state-owned transport firm, and issued the directive.

He instructed the board to quickly locate and summon everyone who had constructed on waterways and possessed government property unlawfully.

“Those who encroached on lands or built on waterways must present their titles and other relevant documents for assessment and verification,” the official stated.

Governor Alia insisted that the state would not remain silent while its citizens suffered because of a few people’s greed.
