Goodluck Jonathan, the former president, has responded to the results of the Bayelsa gubernatorial election.
Governor Douye Diri received congratulations from the former governor of Bayelsa, in a statement that he personally signed and shared on X.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee and current governor, Diri, was proclaimed the election’s victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on November 11.
According to INEC, the governor received 175,196 votes, more than his nearest rival and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Timipre Sylva, who received 110,108 votes.
Jonathan congratulated His Excellency @govdouyediri on winning reelection to the position of governor of Bayelsa State.
“Your election win is well-deserved, as it shows the public’s confidence in your ability to govern and is a reward for your years of dedication to the advancement of peace, prosperity, and Bayelsa.
“As a result of the people entrusting you with their hope and anticipation for a better and prosperous future through the voting booth, your achievement has come with additional responsibilities.
“I implore you to return the trust that the people have placed in you by virtue of this mandate and strive towards the advancement and well-being of every Bayelan, regardless of political persuasion, senatorial district, tribe, or locality.
“I applaud each and every candidate for running in the recently held election and for their steadfast commitment to serving the people of Bayelsa. One candidate’s win does not mean the other has been conquered.
“This triumph belongs to all Bayelsans.” I implore all parties involved to prioritise the needs of the state over their own. Right now, we need to come together and work to improve Bayelsa.
“My dear Governor, the unification and advancement of our beloved Bayelsa State should be strengthened by your reelection.
“In conclusion, I implore the electoral umpire and other relevant parties to give due consideration to the concerns raised by the off-cycle elections and strive towards enhancing the electoral framework and ensuring the longevity of our country’s democratic system.”
