The African Union is addressing key integration issues at a major conference in Ghana. Discover the strategies and discussions underway.

On Sunday, the African Union gathered in Ghana to tackle matters concerning African integration and establish a united front prior to engaging with the G20 and UN.

Mohamed Cheikh Ghazouani, the current Chair of the African Union and President of Mauritania, called for an expedited progression in achieving greater integration throughout Africa.

He emphasized the significance of speeding up economic integration for aiding the continent and meeting African citizens’ ambitions.

The meeting focused on financing methods for African Union projects, with a particular emphasis on funding the organization itself. The main topic of discussion was its heavy dependence on donations from non-African allies.

Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission emphasized the need for member nations to display solidarity when engaging with international collaborators in upcoming events.

He stressed the significance of maintaining a unified language at major global gatherings such as G20, given that the African Union is now an active member.

Ongoing regional instability in West Africa may result in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso losing their memberships from ECOWAS due to military coups that displaced democratically elected leaders within the respective nations.

For years now, terrorist groups associated with al-Qaeda and the Islamic State have posed a threat to these nations.
