Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany has made it clear that Germany will not allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to forcibly change Ukraine’s borders or impose peace terms on the country.

In a speech to lawmakers in Berlin, Scholz emphasized that Germany will not accept a peace agreement that is dictated at the expense of Ukraine. He stressed the importance of the rule of law over violence and condemned Putin’s military operation against Ukraine in February 2022 as a violation of this principle.

Scholz reassured that Germany’s support for Ukraine will not waver and warned against underestimating their commitment.

He also criticized Putin’s recent reelection, stating that it demonstrated Russia’s weakness. However, it is acknowledged that European allies, including Germany, may struggle to fill the funding gap if the United States reduces its support for Ukraine due to budget constraints.
