In order to quit receiving a monthly pension from the State of Ogun, Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state, has requested that Dapo Abiodun, the current governor, stop paying it to him.
Daniel requested that his monthly pension and allowances, which he is entitled to as a former governor and are worth N676,376.95, be suspended in a letter headlined “Request To Suspend My Monthly Pension and Allowances.”
According to him, the suspension of the pension was done in accordance with his conscience, moral code, and ethical code against multiple emoluments, which states that a serving senator who was previously a state governor is not eligible to receive the payment of pension and allowances from such a state.
On June 13 in the National Assembly, Senator Daniel, the newly elected senator for Ogun East, was sworn in among other senators.
The senator added that since leaving office in 2011, he has not received any welfare benefits, including medical, furniture, transportation, and other benefits.
I write to request the suspension of my monthly pension/allowances of 676,376.95 (gross) (Six Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Three Hundred Seventy-Six Naira, Ninety-Five Kobo) that I receive as a former Executive Governor of Ogun State.
“This request is in accordance with my conscience, moral code, and ethical code against multiple emoluments, which forbids a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who previously served as a State Governor from being eligible for the payment of pension and allowances from such state.
It will be noted that on June 13th, 2023, I and other elected Senators and Representatives were sworn in as members of the 10th National Assembly.
“It is important to note that I have not received any welfare benefits, including medical care, furniture, transportation, or any other type of assistance, since I left the office in 2011. In advance, I thank you.
