The Accord Party’s chapter in Lagos State claims that its candidate’s acceptance will give the party an advantage over rivals in the Surulere I Federal Constituency by-election.

The party has started election preparations, according to Mr. Dele Oladeji, the Lagos State Chairman of the party, who made this revelation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday.

For the Surulere constituency I byelection, we are ready. Our primary elections are almost approaching. All of our candidates are prepared for the election and the fight.

“We have a great chance of winning.

“The popularity of our candidate and the unsatisfactory performance of the ruling party at the centre will give us the advantage in this election.

“If the poll is free, peaceful, and credible, we are very optimistic about winning this election,” the chairman declared.

He stated that the party was aware of the power held by the ruling APC in the area, particularly the Chief of Staff’s (Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila’s) sway.

Oladeji stated that because the party had started organising, Accord would come as a surprise.

But he added that the party’s prospects also hinged on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) capacity to hold free and fair elections.

The date of the rerun and byelections in nine states, including Surulere Federal Constituency I, House of Representatives, was set by INEC for February 3, 2024.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Femi Gbajabiamila as his Chief of Staff, the Surulere seat became vacant.

The position was held by Gbajabiamila before he was appointed.
