Since attacks on politicians endanger the next elections, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has urged for immediate action to stop them.
This was said by Mr. Gbajabiamila on Tuesday during his New Year’s Speech at the plenary’s resumption following the Christmas and New Year breaks.
He pointed out that there have been more attacks on political figures, which has caused worry about the nation’s overall security.
It should be remembered that during the past year, a variety of political figures have been attacked, most recently Ugo Chinyere, the chairman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), in Imo State.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sites in the southeast and southwest have also been attacked more often.
“As the general elections draw near, there has been a noticeable rise in violent attacks on political figures in some areas of the country.” “To prevent this risky tendency from creating conditions that jeopardize the upcoming elections, we must band together,” he warned.
He continued, “The quality of societal political discourse, particularly in the run-up to elections, is a determining element in the electoral outcomes and the type of governance that will arise therefrom.”
Gbajabiamila asked committees to step up their monitoring of ministries, agencies, and parastatals in her speech on the federal government’s debt profile.
According to the Daily Post, the MPs will have another day off on Thursday to concentrate on their campaigns ahead of the election on February 25.
