Ganduje Names Wike’s Ally Tony Okocha as APC Leader in Rivers State

APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje declares Tony Okocha, an ally of Nyesom Wike, as the new leader of the APC in Rivers State, sparking political discussions.

Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has confirmed that Chief Tony Okocha holds the position of leader within the party in Rivers State.

Ganduje stated that the Rivers State APC leadership structure, led by Okocha—an ally of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike—is recognized by the party’s national secretariat.

On Saturday in Port Harcourt, Ganduje announced this during the inauguration of the party’s newly elected state executive committee.

The APC national chairman extended his congratulations to the newly elected members and clarified why the party chose to hold the inauguration in Rivers State rather than at their National Headquarters in Abuja.

He stressed that this action represents the party’s effort to bolster connections between national and state leadership, ensuring unity between these two structures.

Ganduje urged the state executive committee to prioritize internal democracy, emphasizing that it is a fundamental aspect of their duties.

He additionally highlighted the need to promote unity and inclusiveness within the party at the state level.

Commenting on the APC’s performance in the South-South geopolitical zone, which has traditionally been a stronghold for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ganduje observed that the APC has made notable strides by gaining control over Cross River and Edo states.

He added that Rivers State is the party’s next strategic focus as it pursues its expansion efforts in the region.
