Former Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, slams current Governor Yusuf for accusing him of stealing court documents, intensifying the ongoing political feud in the state.

On Thursday, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje – the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress – dismissed Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s suggestion that he employed troublemakers to pose as demonstrators and raid the state high court for “sensitive documents” linked with his corruption trial. He deemed this idea absurd and illogical.

At least two corruption charges were filed against Ganduje by the state government led by Yusuf. One of these cases involved accusations that both the ex-governor and his family, including his wife Hafsat and son Umar, had accepted bribes totaling $413,000 USD and N1.38 billion NGN.

On Thursday, Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary Edwin Olofu released a statement in which Ganduje questioned Yusuf’s ability to manage Kano State’s security and judicial system due to his allegations of stolen court documents.

Ganduje called Yusuf’s claim insincere and pointed out that even if the court documents were stolen by troublemakers, there would still be a duplicate copy in possession of the government lawyer handling the case.

On Wednesday, Yusuf informed journalists in Kano that individuals who are hostile towards the government employed unsuitable figures to damage the state high court – a noteworthy public edifice- and stole files containing corruption accusations against the national chairperson of APC.

After making an on-the-spot assessment visit to the court, which was vandalized by hoodlums during the recent nationwide anti-hunger protests, the governor issued a statement.

He claimed that it was apparent the vandals had a sponsored objective.

However, according to Ganduje’s aide, the accusation was deemed absurd and lacking in evidence.

“It’s ridiculous that in Kano, the act of governing has devolved into a farce,” he stated. “The state government has stooped so low as to insinuate that protesters breached a court and meticulously chose specific documents pertinent to the trial of the APC national leader, then individually selected and removed them during this digital age.”

This pedestrian propaganda is unlikely to convince any discerning mind. What became of the documents held by the government’s lawyers? The state authorities appear incapable of managing affairs effectively and consistently generate numerous corruption accusations against Ganduje and his family, despite their dedicated service to the state.

Governor Yusuf’s administration is making a feeble effort to deflect attention from their responsibility in the unrest that took place in the state. Suggesting that crucial documents could be taken away during a protest highlights the government’s increasing incapacity to manage security and legal issues effectively.

The weighty words and deeds of leaders have serious repercussions, so Governor Yusuf must acknowledge this fact. We are united with the Kano people in urging all compassionate citizens to remain peaceful and follow the law as authorities carry out their inquiries.
