The Global Affairs Magazine Award (GAMA) presented Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), with the prestigious Best Politician of the Year award for his outstanding leadership in the wake of the 2023 general elections.
The celebration, with the theme “A Channel of Hope Where There is Despair,” honoured people who had a good influence on their local community.
Rufai Oseni of Arise News received a special award for being the year’s “Most Courageous Television Host.”
In addition, Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries’ founder, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, received a lifetime achievement award for his contributions to humanity.
In a similar vein, vocalist Yinka Davies, reggae musician Orits Wiliki, and seasoned actor Kanayo O Kanayo were all recognised for their exceptional contributions to the development of entertainment in Nigeria.
During the award ceremony, Regina Robinson, Convener of GAMA, stated that the purpose of the award was to honour and celebrate outstanding men and women who have had a good impact on others and are unselfish.
The award honours people and organisations that have dedicated their lives to advancing causes that have the potential to change lives, particularly those related to health and, most importantly, the underprivileged, the physically challenged, children with special needs, and the burgeoning youth population.

In addition, Dr. Bala Abraham, Chairman of Global Affairs Magazine (GAM), who oversaw the GAM Foundation’s establishment, promised to address the problems of the underprivileged in society.
Additional awardees include Drs. Akintoye Akindele and Segun Musa, who are both business owners, and Dr. Bala Abraham, Chairman of Global Affairs Magazine, who was given a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his humanitarian efforts.
Dr. John Ejezie, Princess Ebuwa Iguehon, and Pastor Wale Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of Guiding Light Assembly Church, were also recognised with awards of excellence for their humanitarian services.
Three individuals were recognised for their exceptional contributions to humanity: Rev. Ngozi Okorie of the Full Life Christian Assembly; Eze Chika Nwokedi, an Igwe from the Ijegun/Ijeodododo communities in Lagos; and Mr. Olawale Shittu, a business manager.
The GAMA Award of Excellence was given to Dr. Osita Offor, the former World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, in recognition of his exceptional national contribution.
In his response, Nuel thanked the award’s organisers and his wife for her unwavering assistance.
He remarked, “This is for God, my family, everyone on my team, and my clients who continue to pay for my services even in the face of hopelessness.”
“I like to appreciate the award organisers because it is not in our tradition to appreciate people while they are alive, but this is coming while we are still alive,” raggae performer Wiliki stated.
“I dedicate this to Mrs. Becky, the last born in my family; together, we have endured many hardships over the years.”
Tee Mac performed at the 2023 GAMA Awards in Lagos, on Saturday. Yinka Davies and Nigerian flautist Omotshola Itseli, also referred to as “Tee Mac,” dazzled the crowd with a brilliant performance.
