Following the conclusion of the G7 Summit working sessions yesterday, Giorgia Meloni, the President of the Council of Ministers, held a meeting today with Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
During their discussions, both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the strong bilateral relations, particularly in the economic sector. They highlighted the ongoing progress in the energy, agricultural, and industrial fields.
The main topics of conversation revolved around the advancements of projects outlined in the Mattei Plan for Africa, specifically in agriculture and vocational training. They also emphasized their joint efforts within the Rome Process on migration and development.
One of the key initiatives discussed was a sustainable agriculture project that is currently being finalized. This project, which involves the Italian agro-industrial group under Bonifiche Ferraresi S.p.A., includes the strategic allocation of around 36,000 hectares of land for agro-industrial activities in collaboration with Algerian partners. This represents Italy’s most significant investment in sustainable agriculture in the southern Mediterranean region.
Furthermore, President Meloni and President Tebboune exchanged views on important global issues, taking into account Algeria’s upcoming role as a member of the Security Council for the 2024-2025 term.
