Funke Akindele’s movie ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ makes history by crossing the N1bn mark, first for Nollywood

“A Tribe Called Judah,” the latest film from Funke Akindele, is the first Nollywood production to gross more than N1 billion at the box office.

After its publication, “A Tribe Called Judah” made N1 billion in just three weeks.

The CEO of FilmHouse Group, Kene Okwuosa, stated in a statement on Thursday that the globe is living in a golden age of Nigerian cinema when he revealed the historic achievement.

“In addition to captivating viewers, Akindele’s film has demonstrated the tenacity of Nigerian cinema against international streaming behemoths like Netflix and Prime Video,” the statement continued.

When “A Tribe Called Judah” opened in theatres on December 15, 2023, it became the first Nollywood film to make over N113 million in its first weekend of release.

Funke’s “Battle on Buka Street” brought in N650 million at the box office in 2022, according to Obasanjo News24.
