Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman, an Israeli rabbinical judge, was killed on Thursday when two gunmen opened fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, which was witnessed by thousands of ultra-Orthodox men at his funeral.
one of the three victims of Thursday’s shooting at a packed bus terminal in Jerusalem.
Police say that two armed individuals with an M16 rifle and a handgun approached the bus stop and started shooting.
The two assailants, brothers from a neighbourhood in east Jerusalem that has been annexed, were put to death.
Hamas took credit for the strike and justified it by claiming that it was punishment for Israeli “crimes” including the killing of women and children in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
There seems to be no threat to the Gaza truce from the attack.
Even though the West Bank and east Jerusalem are not included in the cease-fire, rising violence there, including Israeli raids, has the potential to shatter the calm in Gaza.
